Travel during the 1800s generally meant a lot of time on the road or sea and so the travelling trunk was an essential part of the luggage. Trunks were used to store all manner of personal items including clothes and equipment. During this time the manufacture of trunks developed from being merely a box into which everything was thrust to becoming an entire wardrobe including drawers and hanging space.
Some of the well known and respected trunk manufacturers of the time included Harry Bender, Louis Vuitton, Henry Likly & Co.
Victorian trunks are only a small part of the range of Trunks and Chests available here.
